Palitutu's Report – Preface

[personal profile] melodiesmods 2015-12-30 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
Within this report is the fruit of a lifetime of research. I leave it here for myself and for those who would find it, should my life come to a premature end. If you read this report, you will come to horrible conclusions by the end of it. You will have a clear perception of what has to be done, of the sacrifices that have to be made.

Then you must ask yourself if you are ready to do what has to be done. What has to be done would be considered criminal and immoral by any earthly standards. But ethics have no place here.

Palitutu's Report #01 – The Ancients

[personal profile] melodiesmods 2015-12-30 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
The homeworld of the Ancients was a planet called Hera. They had reached the peak of technological advancement within the limit of their physical forms. For convenience's sake, Herans will be referred to as Ancients from there on.

But before long their world was faced with destruction. Not by the hand of an enemy or because of their own mistakes, but because of nature itself. Unlike ours, the universe home to Hera was an expanding one. While such a model comes with its advantages, their scientists observed the expansion was reversing. In simple terms, their universe was in the process of collapsing on itself and becoming a singularity, as it had been in the very beginning. Such destruction was something the Ancient were unable to prevent. Moving to another planet wouldn't help them either, as all planets within their dimension would eventually disappear.

Hence, they turned their stare to other universes and developed technology accordingly. This is how they found Crystallis and the universe home to our planet. Unlike theirs, the universe of Crystallis is static. In simple terms, this means our universe is infinite both spatially and temporally. This is why the Ancients picked Crystallis as their new home, as they wouldn't have to worry about this universe eventually collapsing on itself. The Ancients were obsessed with the concepts of eternity and finding ways for their civilization to endure forever, which is what eventually led to their downfall.

They moved their population onto the moon of Hera and proceeded to displace it through the Interdimensional Rift, the void which connects all universes. This is how they reached Crystallis, and this is the origin of the Red Moon. It is important for further reports to mention now that Red is the color attributed to alien entities on Crystallis, whereas Blue is the color of that which belongs to Crystallis.

However, it didn't take long for them to realize Crystallis wasn't the eternal heaven they had dreamed of. The planet itself was dying, and with no other planet colonizable within this universe, they found themselves faced with extinction once again. Rather than move to another dimension though, they focused their research on Crystallis. This is how Crystal Technology was born.

It is evident they failed to save their civilization. However, these events happened tens, maybe hundreds of thousands if not millions of years ago. If Crystallis was a dying planet then, our existence today is proof they succeeded in making the planet, if not eternal, lasting.

Palitutu's Report #02 – The Heroes of Light

[personal profile] melodiesmods 2016-04-27 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Eventually, the Ancient found the answer to their problem. Indeed, their research brought to light the existence of the First Crystal. For convenience’s sake, I will refer to the First Crystal simply as the Crystal from there on. The Crystal rests in the planet’s core and regulates the flow of life on this world. When someone dies, their soul goes back to the planet and then to the Crystal. Their memories are relinquished within the Crystal and once their soul has rested, they return to the planet and are ultimately born anew. This is the cycle of life and reincarnation on Crystallis. The task is monumental and over the years, the Crystal’s energy has waned. As such the solution was simple: all the Ancients had to do was revitalize the Crystal. The means to do so however were not so simple.

To live, lifeforms have to kill other lifeforms. Whether it is to eat, to defend oneself or for any other reasons, death is the means through which life persists. This is a universal truth which we do not question, as our very survival is dependent on accepting it. The Ancients became aware of this paradox—Life and death are opposite notions and yet one and the same. But what about worlds and universes? They are very much like us. They are born, they live and eventually they die. Would it be right for a world to survive longer at the cost of other worlds? Can we apply the logic by which we strive to a larger scale?

The Ancients’s answer to this question was yes. If they could drain spiritual energy from another world, they could use it to revitalize the First Crystal. Repeating the process, they could live eternally. Doing so would result in the death and destruction of the targeted worlds, but by their logic it was no different from killing other lifeforms to feed oneself. And so using their technology, they looked past the Interdimensional Rift and searched for worlds which would be apt to revitalize the Crystal. To this end, they built a Soul Divider—A machine existing for the sole purpose of filtering and recycling the spiritual energy drained from other worlds and cycle it into the Crystal in order to revitalize it. This machine is gigantic and covers the entire planet’s underground through a maze of crystallized caves, reaching down to the Crystal itself. From our perspective, the main infrastructure of the Soul Divider looks like a gigantic tree made of crystal.

The Ancients thus attempted to absorb the spiritual energy of a world to revitalize the Crystal, but this first attempt failed. The world which they tried to reach resisted assimilation and fought back. The results of this failed attempt were horrific: the targeted world was destroyed and the surface of Crystallis was ruined for a hundred years. After looking into the failure, the Ancients realized they needed a catalyst for the assimilation to be successful. Something to ease the process, a medium between Crystallis and the target world: a lifeform originating from the world to be assimilated. Not just any lifeform, but one connected in a decisive manner with their homeworld, whether it is in a positive or negative fashion. And so on their next attempt they used the very technology they had once used to find Crystallis. They summoned someone from the world to be assimilated. A special red crystal was produced to serve as the link itself—Containing all of the lifeform’s past, present and future.

However, this second attempt failed as well. The one they summoned fought against them with powers the Ancients had never seen before. Chaos ensued, many were killed before the subject was subdued and as expected, the assimilation failed once more. Frightened, the Ancients devised a means to seal the power of all future summoned subjects. Their mistakes were numerous and with each new failed attempts, their situation grew more and more desperate. They observed that the subject’s crystal had been red: the color of foreign worlds. After further research, they reached the conclusion they needed to build a link between the summoned subject and Crystallis for the assimilation to be successful. Furthermore, they conducted extensive research on the world to be assimilated and the individual to be summoned, collecting data to properly seal their powers and be able to face any situations.

The third attempt was a success, and when the red crystal turned into the blue of Crystallis, they could assimilate the world without resistance. But the energy gathered from a single world wasn’t sufficient. Over 99.9% of the assimilated world was rejected and left to drift in the Interdimensional Rift. The quantity absorbed was too weak to revitalize the Crystal. Hundreds if not thousands of worlds would be necessary. And this is when the Ancients committed their greatest sin. They summoned thousands of lifeforms from thousands of different worlds. And with this the Crystal was revitalized, but all of their worlds were lost.

These people whom the Ancients summoned to Crystallis—They weren’t known as such yet, but they were the first “Heroes of Light:” puppets used to facilitate the assimilation of their homeworlds into Crystallis.

Palitutu's Report #03 – The Calamity from the Skies

[personal profile] melodiesmods 2016-05-29 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
What is the Calamity from the Skies? This entity, known as Narayana by the Ancients, possesses the ability to devour dimensions. The Ancients uncovered that much, yet they were never able to uncover the truth about its existence—Not until they were brought to extinction.

The answer is simple and lies at the base of all science: nothing is created, nothing is destroyed and everything is transformed. Regardless of the difference between local laws of nature in different universes, the principle of mass conservation has held true throughout all observed dimensions. Therefore, this has to mean either something was made into the Calamity or something transformed on its own into the Calamity. But what could hold such power as to destroy entire dimensions? It is logical to surmise what became the Calamity was already on a scale large enough to compare with universes.

Furthermore, how was such an entity stopped? Should the Calamity be capable of destroying entire dimension within moments it makes no sense for Crystallis to be still. Either Crystallis is somewhat resistant to the power of the Calamity; either the calamity holds a special interest in Crystallis. Lastly, why were the Heroes of Light able to face it when the Ancients were powerless? After his awakening, Garland confirmed what had once been nothing more than theories. In my previous report, it was mentioned the Ancients used other worlds to restore Crystallis, but only a fractions of these worlds could be used—0.01% to be specific. The ineptitude and arrogance of the Ancients led them to using hundreds, thousands of worlds.

But what of the 99.9% left behind? Entire dimensions and universes, once alive but no longer, shattered and left drifting in the rift. It is my belief that over time, these broken fragments of worlds moved together and formed a new entity. The Ancients shattered these dimensions, but the countless consciousness composing them could never find peace. They could never be whole again and so these fragments of shattered dimensions were drawn together, in a desperate attempt to put an end to their suffering. This entity is Narayana, the Calamity from the Skies.

Yet, the newly formed entity wasn’t alive. What had been taken by Crystallis was lost forever. The entity born from this was neither alive nor dead—Unable to live yet unable to die. There are neither words nor sensations that could compare to the state of existence the Calamity is prisoner of. Should a human or any kind of being experience it, their mind would shatter and succumb to madness. Hence the entity moved on to devour worlds, countless of them. This was neither a good nor evil act: only an attempt by the Calamity to become whole again. It is as essential to Narayana as breathing is to us.

This also explains why the Calamity holds a special interest toward Crystallis. Maybe if it was to destroy Crystallis, it could finally become whole again. But why didn’t it even try, why did it take such an unconventional approach toward Crystallis? I believe the fragments, recycled over and over, aren’t even recognizable to Narayana any more. It is almost certain that destroying Crystallis would not be enough to heal the Calamity. If it was to do so… It would only grow strong enough to absorb all of existence and return everything to the void.

Palitutu's Report #04 – The Guardian

[personal profile] melodiesmods 2016-06-26 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Eventually, the Calamity found its way to Crystallis. This development took the Ancients aback and they turned to their technology in the hope to defeat it. To this end, they repurposed one of their ongoing efforts: the WEAPON Project. These were biological and mechanical entities created specifically to subdue the subjects summoned from other worlds should they go out of control—I, of course, refer to those who would become the Heroes of Light. Because of the similarities between Heroes of Light and the Calamity, repurposing the WEAPON Project in an attempt to fight the Calamity was an easy task. A total of six creatures emerged from this project: Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Jade and Ultima. As of this day, only the existence Diamond and Ultima has been confirmed. The other WEAPONs might have been destroyed in the course of previous cycles.

However, the Ancients failed to complete the WEAPON Project in time. But where they failed, their test subjects rose and took up arms against the Calamity. With the help of dissident Ancients led by the Princess of the Heran, the Job System was created so they could access their powers and fight the Calamity. What we nowadays refer to as “Custom Jobs” were the norm when the system was first created—A loophole exploited by the Heroes of Light to gain access to their powers. It is my belief that these “Custom Jobs” were the ancestors of today’s most common Jobs: Black Mage, Warrior, Thief, etc.

But in spite of their efforts, the Heroes of Light couldn’t prevail against the Calamity. They were on the verge of defeating it—But could never finish their task. No matter what they did, it would simply regenerate and negate any blows dealt to it. They didn’t know then that the Calamity resided in the Rift and what they fought was only a fraction of its being. It became evident the Calamity couldn’t be defeated. As such the only option was to seal it away. But what of the future? Any seal would break down with time, long after the Ancients and Heroes of Light alike would have died out.

This is when the original inhabitant of Crystallis, those who were born on this world long before the Ancients colonized it, stepped forward. In the wake of their king’s death, the Moogles worked together to create a guardian: a soul born from the deceased Heroes of Light and Ancients killed by the Calamity. A soul born from the Chaos wrought by the Calamity in order to bring it Order. They modified this soul so it could never be absorbed back by the planet and so it would be reborn perpetually, for as long as Crystallis and the Worlds beyond would need to be protected from the Calamity. This is how Garland came to be.

However, it is unknown exactly how Garland came to be who he is, where his personality came from and what motivates him. Whilst it is evident his successive rebirths have all followed the original will, it is doubtful the Moogles had intended for the cycle to be eternal. At the same time the Moogles did this, the Ancient partook in a different effort, creating the four crystals sustaining our world to compensate for the failing of the First Crystal. Is it possible the Ancients somehow intervened in Garland’s creation—Maybe even changed his original purpose? At this time, it is impossible to say with certainty what happened back then. For all of my research and findings, much of the truth eludes me.

All I know for certain is that at the end, thirteen Heroes of Light remained. They refused to abide by Garland’s plan, but were left with no choice. They would sacrifice themselves, rejuvenating the four Crystals and enough of the First Crystal so that Crystallis might be strong enough to entrap the Calamity. The ancient scripts I found indicate they asked the Moogles of that time to live on for them and to guide all future Heroes of Light, to help them find a way to stop Garland and the Calamity. And as of this day, even if they are not aware of it, the Moogles are still abiding by this covenant.

Palitutu's Report #10 – The Endless Cycle of Chaos

[personal profile] melodiesmods 2016-12-24 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
All lifeforms strive to survive. Whether they be sentient, animal or vegetative, lifeforms are built with the means to ensure their own survival. In that respect, worlds are not any different. Some worlds are able to develop WEAPONs similar to that the Ancients built, others drive potentially dangerous species to extinction while some might even engineer species to protect themselves.

Out of the countless worlds they could have colonized, the Ancients stumbled on Crystallis—A dying world that didn’t reject their attempts to refuel it with the souls of other worlds. Would the Ancients not have colonized Crystallis, it would have died. Would the Calamity not have attacked Crystallis, the automatization of the Cycle would never have happened. While it is unlikely Crystallis engineered these events, there is no doubt the end result benefits it. Maybe the Ancients stumbling on this world was no accident. I can only theorize. There is a certainty however, without the cycle, Crystallis would be no more.

As mentioned in my previous reports, Garland’s existence is unique. He was created by the Moogles to serve as a Guardian that would protect Crystallis long after their passing. To create Garland, they used what remained of the deceased Heroes of Light and Ancients killed by the Calamity. However, the raw soul born of the Moogle’s work was nothing like the man we know nowadays. His appearance was akin to that of Eidolons, being partially similar to them in essence as noted in my earlier reports, and he was known as Chaos before the Moogles completed their work and finalized the entity.

I then theorized the Ancients might have interfered with Garland’s creation, but I believe the blame was misplaced. It is my belief Crystallis itself interfered with Garland’s—Chaos —creation. If I am correct this means Chaos, and by extension Garland, is the enforcer of Crystallis’ will. Harmful as the Calamity is to the surface and its inhabitants; its existence has ensured the continuation of the cycle and with it that of Crystallis. The Calamity is both a blessing and a curse to this World.

I have never been witness to Chaos and Garland eluded the topic. But if my theories are true, Chaos will never let the cycle end and any that should oppose him will become an enemy of Crystallis. Yet, no Heroes of Light have ever seen Chaos before. It is possible Garland’s defense are too powerful and he never needed to call on his true self to defeat the past Heroes of Light.

And even if the Calamity was defeated, there are other species with ambitions and morals like that of the Ancients out there. Maybe Crystallis could draw them in and start all of this anew. For the cycle to truly end, Crystallis must die. But to do so would mean condemning the billions innocent lifeforms living on this World and few are those who could make such a sacrifice, even if it is the right thing to do.
