Aqures Ixen

Aqures Ixen is the Capital of the Kingdom of Aqures. Most of this city was built by the Ancients, and today it is a hybrid of refined yet classic Ancient constructions and more basic constructions made by the people of Aqures. The city was once the political center of the world, but is now much less influential. However, it profits from its distance to the empire. As such, it attracts many refugees who seek shelter away from war. It used to attract adventurers, but now they are a rare breed, courtesy of the war. Aqures Ixen is the city where the Heroes of Light awaken for the first time, and as such it is likely to be the city they'll see the most of. Divided into fifteen districts, the city and its castle offer everything needed to live and explore the world around – From the Scientific District where you can get new Jobs to the Airport where you can find Airships. There is even a Blitzball Stadium, for those who enjoy sports! Please click here for a detail of where each districts are located. |
FIRST DISTRICT – THE CASTLE Located next to the center of the city, this district encompasses Aqures Castle. The castle was abandoned up till one hundred years ago, but was found and rehabilitated to be the seat of power for the royal family of Aqures. An Ancient construct, not even the members of the Royal Family know exactly what secrets are kept within the confine of this castle. Paintings all over the castle depicts the Legends of the Ancients, Eidolons, Heroes of Light and of the Calamity. Most administrative and legal matters are taken care of in this castle. Whilst normally closed to the public, the Heroes have permission to go in and out of the castle at will. Biggs and Wedge can be found there most of the time. |
SECOND DISTRICT – PRIVATE RESIDENCES The second district is a residential area. Located directly in the vicinity of the castle, residences here are small palaces in themselves. This is by far the most luxurious residential area in the city. Although it is private and closed, the heroes of light can choose to settle here if they so desire; however they will have to pay monumental monthly bills to do so, which makes it unlikely for any to manage and settle there before a long, long time. |
THIRD DISTRICT – HISTORICAL CENTER Located in the center of the city, the third district is the historical center where sits the Crystal of Fire – Fifteen foot tall and crimson, it is one the four Great Crystals that protects the world of Crystallis. It generates warmth that keeps Aqures Ixen safe from harsh winters. For unexplained reasons, touching it will make the Heroes feel as though they are closer to their homeworlds. It is believed the Crystal is what summons the Heroes to Crystallis, as they always awaken in its vicinity. Surrounding the Crystal are libraries and museum, all dedicated to the Legend of the Crystals and the History of Crystallis. This district isn't very frequented, except by Moogles who are in charge of the libraries and museum. |
FOURTH DISTRICT – OBSERVATORIES This district is home to two observatories: The first one is of Aqurean design and looks like a renaissance observatory. It is meant to observe the twin moons and the stars. The other one is much more technologically advanced – More advanced than anything else in this city and even characters from modern settings may have a hard time understanding how it function. It seemingly works, yet never displays anything to the native of Crystallis. It used to be abandoned, but the Heroes of Light requested a place where they could gather and it now has become a place where they can freely come and go. |
FIFTH DISTRICT – HOSPITAL This district is home to the hospital of Aqures Ixen, although the number of Doctors and Healers is far too low for them to be able to take care of everyone. Dropped and Hiatused characters can be found in the hospital, in Crystal Stasis. They can be visited any time by the Heroes of Light. |
SIXTH DISTRICT – MAGITEK RESEARCH RUINS Over the past centuries, excavations led around the city and other areas of the world brought to the surface many Ancient technologies, none of which worked upon being found. This district is where experimentation were once led to try and mix magic extracted from the Crystals with the technology of the Ancients. The researches were going very slowly, yet had been partly successful as they participated in the creation of Airships. However, the District was destroyed by Jessie/Palitutu during the Battle of Aqures Ixen, using Ultima Weapon. All that is left of the former Magitek Research Facility are ruins. |
SEVENTH DISTRICT – SCIENTIFIC DISTRICT Whilst seen from the outside this district is no different from the other districts, the insides of the buildings are nothing less than a heaven for researchers. As such, it is nicknamed "the scientific district". There are many scientific establishments here, though most of them appear to be closed. Jessie's laboratory can be found in this district and is one of the rare places in the city where lights never go off. Researches here are dedicated solely to the Crystals and finding how they work. It is also in this District that the Heroes can pick new Jobs and discard old ones, or request regains from their homeworlds. Thanks to her connections with the Moogles, Jessie keeps a copy of every Jobs the Heroes have access to, and she can have these very Jobs infused into the Crystals of the Heroes whenever they request it. |
EIGHT DISTRICT – SCHOOLS In this district can be found schools where the children of Aqures Ixen go. There is also an University, where students go to study their "Job". Depending on what Job they have taken and what level of mastery they desire, the studies vary from three to twelve years. Many of them are jealous of the Heroes for mastering a multitude of Jobs without having gone through such intensive studying. Most teachers here are Tarutarus. |
NINTH DISTRICT – MOGNET DEPARTMENT This district houses the Mognet Office of Aqures Ixen. Moogles fly all over this district, rushing in and out of Mognet at speeds normal people can only dream of. It also houses most of the Moogle population of Aqures Ixen. Mognet is normally closed to public, but Moogles can easily be bought with a few Kupo Nuts, in case anyone really wishes to visit the office. It is comparable to a very busy and active post office. |
TENTH DISTRICT – BLITZBALL STADIUM & SPORTS This district is dedicated to Sports of any kind. There is a Blitzball Stadium in the heart of this district, where there are games every Saturday evening. The Heroes are free to use to Stadium to their heart's content. When not used for Blitzball, the stadium can be used for other sports as well. Blitzball is a very popular sport in Crystallis, dating back to the era of the Ancients. Anyone wishing to play is given a special Potion that will allow them to breathe underwater for the duration of a game. |
ELEVENTH DISTRICT – RESIDENTIAL AREA I Once upon a time, this district was where most adventurers who passed by the city met and stopped to gather information. People who didn't plan on staying in Aqures Ixen beyond a few nights generally stayed here. However, nowadays it isn't frequented half as much. There are still a few item shops and pubs open, and Heroes can find basic weapons and armors here. It is also one of the two districts where Heroes are offered housing, for free. Given enough people band together to gather money and buy an empty buildings, Guilds could be settled here. |
TWELFTH DISTRICT – AIRSHIP PORT This district is where Airships are stored. The Hypellos are in charges of Airships. It is currently impossible to buy Airships, but flights happen every other day and are a very efficient means to cover great distance in very little time (a couple hours only to go from one city to another). There are currently only four Airships in Aqures Ixen. Three of them look literately like masted wooden ship that can fly, whilst the fourth one looks like an hybrid between a dirigible and a futuristic construct. |
THIRTEENTH DISTRICT – GRAVEYARD This district houses two churches in ruin. One of them was dedicated to Eidolons, whilst the last one didn't seem to be dedicated to anything in particular. They were destroyed by the imperial armies during the battle of Aqures Ixen. Now, the district is a cemetery for people who died during the battle, from either sides. In the middle of the tombstones, there is a fifteen-foot tall statue. It still stands and depicts four people, respectively dressed as Warrior, Monk, Black Mage and White Mage. They seem to be in a fighting stance and are holding a Crystal in their right hand. The inscription at the foot of the statue reads "With Them Began The Final Fantasy." |
FOURTEENTH DISTRICT – RESIDENTIAL AREA II Located on the city's outskirt, this district was once where Adventurers lived, but very few of them are left now. Heroes of Light are offered a housing for free here. It's nice, but it's also the most exposed district in case of enemy attack. |
FIFTEENTH DISTRICT – UNFINISHED This district used to be in construction. There were plans to build a more technologically advanced area similar to places built by the Empire, but attempts to reproduce what they have seen failed so far. Indeed, this district has been under construction for over eleven years already and yet, barely anything has been done and it's mostly an empty plain. Many people think this district will never be finished at this rate. Others think the Kingdom will fall before it will be constructed. Either way, the Fifteenth District is the topic of many jokes and a source of many disappointments. Constructions have been stopped after the battle of Aqures Ixen. |
