Locations

The world of Crystallis is divided into four main landmasses. The Continent of Balance is where civilization has prospered for a thousand years, and is now being torn apart by war. A mainly frozen landmass, the Lost Continent is named this way for its impractical conditions and weather. The tempests that rage in permanence over most of the continent have made it impossible for adventurers to explore it. Old Hera Island is where the Kingdom of Hera was before becoming the Heran Empire. It is from where the Calamity has begun devouring the world. The Continent of Ruin has only recenhtly been discovered. Surrounded by high mountains, many believed the rise of Airships would allow for this continent to be explored. Yet, protected by an energy field, no Airships could reach it. Only the Enterprise was finally able to reach the place. |
Major Locations
![]() AQURES IXEN Population: Moogle (30%), Human (30%), Tarutaru (25%), Hypello (15%) The city where the Heroes of Light awaken, and the place they will see the most of. Once the most influential kingdom in the world, Aqures lost most of its influence after the destruction of its sister city, Aqures Tosf. Today, thanks to its distance from the Empire and its resources, it is a haven for those who choose to flee war. It is full of opportunities for adventurers as well, even though very little of them are left. Click here for more information on Aqures Ixen. |
![]() AQURES TOSF Population: Monsters (Tonberry, Malboro, Zombie, Black Elemental) Once home to the Tarutarus and to the Temple of Fire, the city of Aqures Tosf was destroyed twenty-seven years ago. While it was officially part of the Kingdom of Aqures, the Tarutaru government was free of any outside influences. A great experimentation on the Crystals and Magitek was conducted here, which resulted in the explosion that destroyed the city and most of the Tarutaru population. The Crystal of Fire was subsequently moved to Aqures Ixen for safekeeping, and the island was abandoned. |
![]() AERILON Population: Human (30%), Moogle (25%), Tarutaru (25%), Hypello (20%) Located on an island, that city developed faster than any others these past couple years. It benefits from its distance to the Continent of Balance and draws those who desire to avoid war or the Empire. It is similar to Aqures Ixen in that it is a place distant from the Empire where people are free. However, unlike Aqures Ixen, Aerilon has a bigger focus on black markets and otherwise illegal things. The island can be seen as a haven for outlaws. Better weapons and armors than in Aqures Ixen can be found here. Click here for more information on Aerilon. |
![]() ANCIENT RUINS Population: Primal Moogle (30%), Elezen (10%), Shumi (5%), Monsters (55%: Iron Giant, Raptor, Mech Gunner, Bomb) The southern half of the Continent of Ruins is entirely covered in ruins, which extend past the Temple of the Heroes of Light and become scarce until disappearing totally in the Plains of Sorrow. The ruins are that of a very advanced civilization, that of the Ancients. While at first the place seems to be desolate, beyond monsters the ruins are also home to many people who are looking for Ancient technology, hunting or investigating history. |
![]() BALICEA Population: Hypello (40%), Human (25%), Tarutaru (25%), Moogle (10%) A small coastal town under the authority of Aqures, Balicea is home to the Hypellos. It is also the largest port on the Continent of Balance. Whilst ships are not as frequently used as they used to be due to the rise of Airships, they may come in handy to visit locations where no Airship can go, such as Aerilon. Ships have to be rented, so the Heroes better find a way to make some money if they want to use them. Click here for more information on Balicea. |
![]() CACTUAR ISLAND Population: Monsters (Cactuar) This island is a desert and home to the infamous monsters, Cactuar. These monsters are both deadly and hard to defeat, but they are excellent for training and mastering skills in no time. A legend says that one of the Eidolon who participated in the battle against the Calamity is sleeping on that island. |
![]() CHOCOBO FARM Population: Human (50%), Moogle (50%), Chocobos The Chocobo Farm is where adventurers can store their Chocobos. Or rather, used to store them. Indeed, there are not enough adventurers left for that now. The owner of the Chocobo Farm is an old man, way too old to keep doing his job. Thankfully, he is being helped by his best friend, a Moogle. The two of them constitute the entire population of the Chocobo Farm. Check here for Chocobo Capture! |
![]() COUNTY OF FLENCE Population: Moogle (35%), Human (30%), Hypello (20%), Tarutaru (15%) The County of Flence was once under the authority of Aqures, but is now an independent state. Located next to the Temple of Water, the government of this county insists on taking a neutral stance regarding the Continent of Balance's affairs. They hope this way the Empire will ignore them. People there are peace-loving and agree with their government's stance, blissfully turning a blind eye as to what happens on the continent. Flence is also famous for its food-- The most refined there is in the known world. Click here for more information on the County of Flence. |
![]() CRYSTAL LIFE TREE Population: Monsters (Dragon Zombie, Skeleton, Zombie) A gigantic tree made of Crystal, that can be seen shining at night even from the Plains of Sorrow. It is said this is the tree of life that controls the flow of souls on Crystallis. However, the tree is by far a mystery and very little is known about it. |
![]() DOWNAPOLIS Population: Bangaa (50%), Elezen (20%), Primal Moogle (20%), Shumi (10%) An underground city built by the Bangaa and the Shumi. In the Continent of Ruins, this city is simultaneously the equivalent of Aerilon and Trano Golsaucia. This is where Ancient technology is analyzed and where many try to revive the secrets of the Ancients. The place is also home of the Cult of Narayana, a society that believes the Heroes of Light are emissary from evil and that Narayana, also known as the Calamity from the Skies, is meant to deliver Crystallis from suffering. |
![]() LUNAR GATE Population: Shumi (100%: Moomba) An abandoned Ancient facility. It seems there are traces of technology other than Ancient there, but failing to understand it, the natives have abandoned it. Only Moomba remain there. The purpose of this place is unknown. |
![]() MOGNET CENTRAL Population: Moogle (100%) Whilst each city got a Mognet office, Mognet Central is where all important Mognet affairs are taken care of. It is a very active place where Moogles from all over the world work, meet and even for many of them, live. Characters are allowed to visit Mognet Central, but as it is located on a tiny island, they must come by ship or airship. |
![]() MONSTER ARENA Population: Human (50%), Moogle (50%), Monsters The Monster Arena is a new location where adventurers can test their skills against a variety of monsters and accomplish side quests, for a reward! The owner of the Arena used to have ten copies of every monster in the world, but he accidentally let them all escape... Thankfully, he can count on the Heroes of Light to catch them all! For more details on the Arena and potential side-quest, please click here. |
![]() MYSIDIA Population: Elezen (45%), Bangaa (35%), Primal Moogle (20%) The main city and country on the Continent of Ruins, albeit smaller than Downapolis. The people living in this city are said to excel in magic. Because war has not erupted on this continent in a very long time, Mysidia prospers faster than any other city in Crystallis besides the Imperial City of Hera. It serves as the equivalent to Aqures Ixen on this continent, as people from all over the continent meet there and stay there before going back home. Please click here for more. |
![]() MYSIDIAN TOWER Population: Monsters (Iron Giant, Mech Guard, Mech Gunner) An abandoned tower of Ancient design that reaches out to the sky. Adventurers from Mysidia and Downapolis have gone as far as the 27th Floor, but even then they've not close to reaching the top. The purpose of this tower is unknown. |
![]() NABILA CITY Population: Human (40%), Moogle (40%), Hypello (15%), Tarutaru (5%) A coastal city and the second largest port on the Continent of Balance, Nabila City was conquered twenty years ago by the Kingdom of Hera. The war was swift, as Nabila was unprepared. The conquest of Nabila twenty years ago is when the Kingdom of Hera officially became the Heran Empire. Today, it serves as a military backyard for the Empire. |
![]() PLAINS OF SORROW Population: Monsters (Behemoth, Long Gui, Malboro) These plains are said to be where the Heroes of Light fought the Calamity and emerged victorious. The people on the Continent of Ruins go there to pray to the Heroes of Light, whilst those belonging to the Cult of Narayana pray to the Calamity. The soil is always gray and it is said nothing has grown in this place ever since the legendary battle. |
![]() REGION OF ROALIE Population: Monsters (Skeleton, Chimera, Gargoyles) A desert, the Region of Roalie was devastated by war. The intense battles that happened there for ten years between the combined forces of Roalie and Esdham against the Heran Empire devastated the landscape. Eventually, Roalie was besieged and refusing to surrender, the Kingdom was destroyed, leaving only ruins. What little survivors remained fled either to Esdham to continue the battle, or to Aqures Ixen to live 'peacefully' away from war. |
![]() REPUBLIC OF ESDHAM Population: Human (50%), Moogle (25%), Tarutaru (20%), Hypello (5%) An ally of Roalie, the Republic of Esdham helped the Roaliens when the Empire waged war on them. Yet, in spite of the long and fierce battles, Roalie was eventually lost. For the past five years, Esdham fought alone, with for only help independent soldiers from Aqures Ixen. Thanks to its advantageous geographical position Esdham has been able to keep the Empire at bay, but its resources are dwindling. Should Esdham fall, Aqures along with Balicea would be the only free nations left on the continent and most likely, the next targets. Click here for more information on the Republic of Esdham. |
![]() TEMPLES Population: N/A The Temples are where the four Great Crystals are kept and they are protected by the nations closest to them. The Crystals are said to be the source of all life and what keeps Crystallis together. Twenty-seven years ago an experimentation was conducted on the Crystal of Fire in Aqures Tosf, with disastrous results. Ever since then, security around the Temples was accentuated. In spite of this, the Temple of Earth fell into the Empire's hands. |
![]() TEMPLE OF THE HEROES OF LIGHT Population: Monsters (T-Rex, Raptors) A temple somehow related to the Heroes of Light. Most of it is in ruins and destroyed, and none but monsters frequent it. There are inscriptions in the tongue of the Ancient all around, though none so far have managed to decipher them. |
![]() TRANO GOLSAUCIA Population: Tarutaru (35%), Moogle (30%), Hypello (25%), Human (10%) This city is a gigantic amusement park as well as a competitive center. Yearly competitions of Blitzball and Triple Triad are held there. Additionally, many other distractions can be found there: Chocobo Races, various card games, etc. The city is not very populated, but countless people try to come here if only for a few days. Indeed, this city is one of the rare place where they can forget about the troubles that pollute their world. Click here for more information on Trano Golsaucia. |
![]() VILLAGE OF SANTA CLAUS Population: Moogles (30%), Primal Moogles (30%), Humans (13%), Hypello (8%), Elezen (6%), Tarutaru (5%), Bangaa (5%), Shumi (3%) As the first major join effort between the inhabitants of the Continent of Ruins and the rest of Crystallis, both kind of Moogles have decided to work together in an effort to recreate the origin of both Mognet and Mogshop. The Village of Santa Claus is what they envision when thinking about the Moogles who helped the legendary Hero of Light, Santa Claus, thousands of years ago. Click here for more information on the Village. |
![]() PANDAEMONIUM Population: ???????????????????????? Where everything ends. What was formerly the Imperial City of Hera underwent a drastic change after being absorbed by the Calamity and became the legendary Crystal Castle, Pandaemonium. It is said in some tales this is the final destination of all Heroes of Light before accomplishing their destiny. What this means is unknown, as if the fate that befell the inhabitants of this city. It currently cannot be accessed as it is surrounded by crystallized lands. |
Minor Locations
![]() AQUREAN FOREST A forest north of the Republic of Esdham. It marks the end of the Kingdom of Aqures' territory, and the beginning of Esdham's. Once a calm forest, monsters now infest it. An Eidolon is said to rest there, and many fear the forest's state is a result of the Eidolon having fallen to darkness. |
![]() ANCIENT CAVE A cave filled with monsters. Adventurers have explored it time and time again and robbed it of all its secrets. Yet, the last room contains inscriptions about the Legend of the Heroes. Maybe there is more to find for the chosen heroes? |
![]() CALM PLAINS Nothing but grass as far the eyes can see. That's what most of the territory of Aqures is. There are small settlements, houses and farms here and there, and monsters as well. Among them are the deadly and terrific Hamsters and Malboros. But they are very rare-- One would have to be terribly unlucky to encounter them. |
![]() CHOCOBO FOREST This forest east of the Imperial City of Hera does not house any Chocobos, unlike what its name would suggest. Yet, it is said the forest contains the secret to teach a Chocobo how to cross mountains, walk on water, and even fly! Certainly it cannot be true. |
![]() FLOATING RUINS These ruins appear to be of Ancient design, and many people hoped the rise of Airship would mean they would be explored at long last. Alas! As it turned out, the ruins were protected by the same sort of energy field that prevents airship from accessing the Continent of Ruin. What is hidden there is a secret even as of this day. |
![]() IMPERIAL PRISON An underwater prison. Outlaws and enemies of the Heran Empire are kept prisoner there. The only way to access the Prison is through submarines, a form of transportation mastered only by the Empire. As such, no one has ever escaped from this prison. |
![]() MYTHRIL MINES These mines are where Mythril is extracted, a precious metal from which the best armors and weapons are made. The mines are still active to this day and provide Aqures Ixen with Mythril for Blacksmiths. The appearance of monsters has been making extraction difficult. |
![]() NABILIAN MOUNTAIN Deadly mountains that cut in two the southern part of the Continent of Balance. These mountains make it close to impossible for anyone from the northern half of the continent to access the Imperial City of Hera by any other means than airship. |
![]() PASS OF ROALIE A strategical pass where commerce throughout the Continent of Balance used to be regulated. It was believed control of this pass was the reason behind the war declaration on Roalie, but the Empire's continued aggression on Esdham tends to indicate it wasn't. |
![]() STILTZKIN'S CASTLE A very old and ancient castle, discovered by the legendary adventurer Moogle, Stiltzkin. Because it is in the heart of Heran territory, very little is known about the castle. |
