Chocobo Capture

One of the first thing your Moogle - and anyone sane - told you when you arrived in this world, was how important Chocobos are. Airships are by far faster, but they stop only by big cities-- How are you supposed to get anywhere without Chocobos? Thankfully, the Chocobo Farm is not very far from Aqures Ixen-- At most, it'll take you one hour on foot to get there. There, you can meet the old man in charge of the farm and the Moogle who lives with him. The two of them will tell the characters everything they need to know about Chocobos.

Characters will be allowed to keep the Chocobos they captured. Additionally, they will be able to name their Chocobos and use them to travel. Chocobos can board Airships as well. They may leave their new Chocobo at the Chocobo Farm or take it back to Aqures Ixen. The color and gender of the newly captured Chocobo are left to player discretion.

Your character doesn't have to catch his Chocobo alone! You may make a log for many characters to go and catch Chocobos together, ask the help of other characters on Mognet, etc. Below are descriptions of how to catch a Chocobo and the risks.

When asked, the Old Man and the Moogle will tell characters how to find and capture wild Chocobos. This may sound complicated, but it's actually fairly easy (or so says the old man). Besides, other Heroes of Light did manage to do it before, so it should be easy for them, right?

How to Capture a Chocobo
Characters trying to catch Chocobos will be given a purple Crystal called a 'Chocobo Lure'. The Old Man will explain that when activated, the Crystal emits a sound wave normal people cannot perceive, but that Wild Chocobos do hear. Moogles can activate and deactivate the Lure at will. So long as they are in a zone inhabited by Chocobos such as the area around the Chocobo Farm or a Forest, the Lure will draw Wild Chocobos to the character. Then, what happens depends on what type of Chocobos are attracted by the lure. The Old Man will explain there are three possibilities:

Friendly Chocobo
Sometimes, a Chocobo may just see a character and instantly realize they are meant to be together. If this happens, the Chocobo will try to drag the character toward a spot where a treasure is buried. If the Chocobo and character unearth the treasure together, from this point on the Chocobo will remain loyal to the character.

Unfriendly Chocobo
Sometimes, Chocobos just aren't that friendly and will run away as soon as they realize the characters intend on capturing them. With such a Chocobo, characters will have to partake in a Rodeo of sort. They will have to manage getting on the Chocobo's back and stay there as long as possible. Which is easier said than done, as the Chocobo will run wildly and try to get the character off its back. Needless to say, this may last anywhere from five minutes to one hour.

Once the Chocobo is exhausted, it will become loyal to the character. Yet, the Moogle living with the old man will advise characters to keep an eye on their back still, should they capture such a Chocobo. Probably just paranoia that comes with old age.

Enemy Chocobo
And sometimes, Chocobos will appear before you flanked with monsters. Not what you expected, but these kind of Chocobos will obey only to those who manage to defeat the monsters surrounding them. However, never ever try to attack these Chocobos, attack only the monsters surrounding the Chocobo. Not only attacking such a Chocobo is useless and will cause it to flee, but it may have very hazardous effects on your health.

Different Types of Chocobos
Chocobos come with all kind of personalities, as exemplified in the above action. But they also come in different sizes and colors. By far, Yellow Chocobos are the most common, but if you're lucky enough you may happen to find Chocobos with different color schemes in the region of Aqures Ixen. The colors are as follow:

Blue (light blue and blue marine), Purple, Red, Green and White.

Results of Treasures Hunting
You can hunt for treasures with your Chocobo. This is mandatory to capture one of the friendly Chocobos, but then you can do it with any kind of Chocobos. At the Chocobo Farm, you can find the following treasures:

- Potion
- Ether
- Used Chocobo Plush
- Empty Bottle
- Gils (from 10 to 5000)
- Elixir (rare)
- Old manuscript of "I Want To Be Your Moogle" (very rare)
- Yellow Crystal (extremely rare)

When the first batch of Heroes of Light came, the elder of Chocobo Eaters attacked and tried to eat the newly caught Chocobo. Now gone, smaller Chocobo Eaters remain, hesitantly attacking once in a while. There is a rare probability to attract one of these Chocobo Eater while trying to catch Chocobos.

The Chocobo Eater will try to push characters off a cliff; and eat their Chocobos. Thankfully, these Chocobo Eaters are weaker than the original one, and . defeating a Chocobo eater will earn the character 4000 Gils, offered by the Old Man.
