What is the Calamity from the Skies? This entity, known as Narayana by the Ancients, possesses the ability to devour dimensions. The Ancients uncovered that much, yet they were never able to uncover the truth about its existence—Not until they were brought to extinction.
The answer is simple and lies at the base of all science: nothing is created, nothing is destroyed and everything is transformed. Regardless of the difference between local laws of nature in different universes, the principle of mass conservation has held true throughout all observed dimensions. Therefore, this has to mean either something was made into the Calamity or something transformed on its own into the Calamity. But what could hold such power as to destroy entire dimensions? It is logical to surmise what became the Calamity was already on a scale large enough to compare with universes.
Furthermore, how was such an entity stopped? Should the Calamity be capable of destroying entire dimension within moments it makes no sense for Crystallis to be still. Either Crystallis is somewhat resistant to the power of the Calamity; either the calamity holds a special interest in Crystallis. Lastly, why were the Heroes of Light able to face it when the Ancients were powerless? After his awakening, Garland confirmed what had once been nothing more than theories. In my previous report, it was mentioned the Ancients used other worlds to restore Crystallis, but only a fractions of these worlds could be used—0.01% to be specific. The ineptitude and arrogance of the Ancients led them to using hundreds, thousands of worlds.
But what of the 99.9% left behind? Entire dimensions and universes, once alive but no longer, shattered and left drifting in the rift. It is my belief that over time, these broken fragments of worlds moved together and formed a new entity. The Ancients shattered these dimensions, but the countless consciousness composing them could never find peace. They could never be whole again and so these fragments of shattered dimensions were drawn together, in a desperate attempt to put an end to their suffering. This entity is Narayana, the Calamity from the Skies.
Yet, the newly formed entity wasn’t alive. What had been taken by Crystallis was lost forever. The entity born from this was neither alive nor dead—Unable to live yet unable to die. There are neither words nor sensations that could compare to the state of existence the Calamity is prisoner of. Should a human or any kind of being experience it, their mind would shatter and succumb to madness. Hence the entity moved on to devour worlds, countless of them. This was neither a good nor evil act: only an attempt by the Calamity to become whole again. It is as essential to Narayana as breathing is to us.
This also explains why the Calamity holds a special interest toward Crystallis. Maybe if it was to destroy Crystallis, it could finally become whole again. But why didn’t it even try, why did it take such an unconventional approach toward Crystallis? I believe the fragments, recycled over and over, aren’t even recognizable to Narayana any more. It is almost certain that destroying Crystallis would not be enough to heal the Calamity. If it was to do so… It would only grow strong enough to absorb all of existence and return everything to the void.
