Character: Chiaki Nanami and Doji Makoto
NPC: O'aka XXIV
Date: May 3rd
How: In person
Question: Chiaki would like to purchase the translated computer offered in the May event post. As discussed here, taking the middle of the road of the monthly earnings quoted by the mods and adding it to her reward from Esdham and the money she's earned capturing monsters, she has around 160k in personal funds. She will be bringing Doji Makoto with her to assist in negotiating the sale of her Crystal of Illusion to O'aka for 500k, which will give her just enough to purchase the translated computer at the current discount price. As for Makoto's negotiating chops, he is a member of the Crane Clan from the Legend of the Five Rings setting - the clan most well-known for its deft diplomacy, cunning courtiers, and extensive network of favors.

Under these conditions, O'aka will sell her the computer. She will have to wait till May 04th to get it, as the exposition model is a fake one in case someone would have the brilliant idea to steal it. Then, Chiaki will get the Computer.

It is similar to the computers that could be found in the Research Facility: the screen is protected by a crystal and the keyboard is virtually projected, though there is also a physical one, should she prefer. There is no need to connect it to a power supply, as the crystal seems to double as one.

What sort of information, if any, is already stored on the computer? Chiaki will be spending a few days thoroughly investigating anything that's already there. And because this is pretty much obligatory at this point: are there any games installed? (Hey, the Ancients might have played games.)

Unfortunately, there are no information stored on the computer. If asked, O'aka will say he wouldn't be in this city selling smuggled goods if he had access to the secrets of the Ancients. There are various programs though, some of which are similar to those she may know (text programs, photo editing, etc) and others which use is completely obscure.

There are two games installed on the computer. It looks like Flappy Bird but with a Chocobo Chick instead. The other is a game with four main characters in a RPG setting, something that looks out of the NES. You can chose a Job for every one of them and they have to go on a quest to save the world. It is called "Ultimate Illusion."

Operating under the assumption that the game might hold similar themes to those present in the world of Crystallis (and having precedent for that sort of thing from one of the murder cases from her own history at home), Chiaki is going to spend a fair bit of time over the next month playing Ultimate Illusion.

She will be cataloging everything as she goes and collecting it all into an information file - essentially, writing a FAQ for the game. Special attention will be paid to anything that looks similar to things she already knows about Crystallis: the Job system, presence of Crystals, how to fight the final boss effectively, overall plot themes, etc.

The game is pretty much identical to the very first Final Fantasy, but all the names and sprites are different. So there may be similar themes, but for the most part it will be hard to link anything to Crystallis as all sprites, monsters and names are different.
